Mr Russell and Miss Calcasola took the Year 12 DT students to Eindhoven in The Netherlands. The trip began with a visit to the excellent Philips Museum to see their “90 Years of Innovation” exhibition. The following day included a guided tour of Shapeways 3D printing factory. DT have now established a link with Shapeways, who will be printing future examination pieces using the industry standard technique Selective Laser Sintering, which opens up countless exciting possibilities for all future GCSE and IB students. The last day was a walking tour of Eindhoven’s Strijp R and Strijp S, two areas of the city converted from former Philips factories, the former now residential, the latter commercial that houses design shops, galleries and a fantastic indoor BMX park.
